How training apps compare on features and price

TrainerRoad, Athletica, JOIN, Runna, and the prices beside them. Based Training already covers most of the basics, at $10 a month or $7 on the annual plan.

Short answer: The useful comparisons are TrainerRoad, Athletica, JOIN, Runna, and AI Endurance. Based Training already has most of the basic feature set. The price in the product is $10 a month, or $84 a year, which is $7 a month. There is no trainer account.

Use Based Training

$10 a month, or $84 a year. The year is $7 a month. That number is the pricing copy in the product. It is not a receipt from a completed checkout.

Cycling and running plans are already there, including a dated event and optional strength. A recent hard session makes the next recommendation recovery, and a missed workout moves the days ahead when it fits. Rides go to Wahoo, Garmin, and Karoo. Runs go to Garmin. You can write the session in a sentence, or from ChatGPT. There is no login for a coach.

The price table uses these same figures. Training platform features everyday athletes don’t need is the longer note on coach tools.

How this list was made

Public product and pricing pages, checked on 12 October 2026, plus the current Based Training product. These ten are here because the product is close to ours. Market share was not the filter. Neither was a test of who makes you faster.

The capabilities below are what those companies publish. This page did not include a training block in every app.

Dollar amounts are US dollars. Euro prices stay in euros. A local price, tax, and an app-store subscription can all move the number you actually pay. Where a year is sold up front, the monthly figure is that payment divided by 12.

What Based Training already does

Cycling and running plans, four weeks at a time or aimed at a dated event. Strength can share that week’s time. Strength is a checklist you do yourself. It is not sent to the watch or the bike computer. The plan builder is marked beta.

The next session uses what you already did. A recent hard ride or run makes the recommendation a recovery session, and a stacked hard week does the same. If the plan already covers today or tomorrow, that session stays, including a rest day. Miss a ride or a run and the plan moves that work into the coming days when it fits the time limits. A hard session stays out of a recovery week and out of taper. Strength stays fixed.

After the session, feedback compares a watch or bike-computer recording with the intervals you were given. A file that exists only as Strava data does not get that comparison. Thresholds are stored with a date. A connected provider can propose an FTP, a threshold pace, or a threshold heart rate.

Rides go to Wahoo, Garmin, and Karoo. Runs go to Garmin. You can describe a session in a sentence, or connect ChatGPT or Claude and send it after you confirm the steps. The easiest way to generate a workout and send it to a device. Can I use ChatGPT as a training app?.

That is most of the basic set. There is no trainer account, and no roster of other athletes. If you coach people, this is the wrong app.

The ten apps

TrainerRoad

Cycling, indoors and out. Workouts draw on training history, fatigue, goals, power, heart rate, and how hard the ride felt. The piece worth copying is the four-week look ahead, with a predicted difficulty for the workout, plus FTP detection and a forecast. The depth stays on the bike.

Athletica

Cycling, running, triathlon, duathlon, rowing, and HYROX. The plan responds to performance, fatigue, recovery, and the calendar. An AI coach will explain your own data, which is the useful reference when a product covers more than cycling. The coach explains and suggests. Editing the plan stays a separate step. Six months is also sold, at $99.

JOIN

Cycling. The plan moves with fitness, the days you have, progress, and readiness. The daily choice stays small, availability is adjustable, and there is a recovery check-in. Fewer sports than the others, and the closest match for riders fitting training around work and family.

Runna

Running, with strength, mobility, Pilates, and recovery plans beside it. AI recommends pace changes, and you get a short briefing and feedback on the session. Worth studying for onboarding and for saying what the session is before you start. Coaches still design the plans. A pace change updates the target. The session note leaves the plan as written. Pay for the year and you can see the whole plan. A monthly subscription covers the period you paid for.

TriDot

Swim, bike, and run. Prescription, zones, and accumulated stress run across the three sports. Race pace and splits can account for terrain, heat, humidity, and elevation. Lifestyle allows one sprint or Olympic race. Essentials adds the longer distances and RaceX. Complete adds strength and more control over the plan. A coached tier sits above those. The page checked on 12 October 2026 listed no annual price.

HumanGO

Running, cycling, triathlon, and duathlon, with workflows for an athlete, a coach, and a team. It uses availability, physiological progress, health metrics, and what the athlete reports. Hugo coaches from that context, and it can hold more than one goal. Essential is one goal in one sport. Several goals, recalibration tests, and race planning are Premium.

AI Endurance

Running, cycling, and triathlon. A model of how you respond to training, recovery signals, and the work already done. It predicts performance, sets thresholds, looks at durability and nutrition, and offers a coach you can act on. The broad version wants more physiological data than a simple daily plan. Prediction accuracy was not tested here. This is the closest product to the technical shape of Based Training. Adaptive planning, detailed analytics, a coach that can do something, and a way for an outside assistant to connect. The public price, including on the Polish page, is $20 a month or $200 a year, billed in US dollars.

Xert

Mostly cycling. Current fitness, training strain, breakthroughs, and a forecast toward a goal. The model covers threshold power, peak power, and the energy for hard efforts, and it can absorb a ride that was never on the calendar. The vocabulary is heavier than a daily coach. Premium is the paid tier. Starter is free and limited.

2PEAK

Cycling and triathlon, with running and other sports included. Available time, completed training, goals, and a recovery model. Adaptive plans across sports, a recovery battery, training camps, and nutrition. Race preparation, multisport, nutrition, and coach access are split across Fit, Race, and Unlimited. The page checked on 14 October 2026 lists no one-month price. Six months is €72 for Fit, €121 for Race, and €121 for Unlimited, with €172 shown as Unlimited’s regular price. The monthly rates printed beside those prices are €12, €20.11, and €20.11.

enduco

The site advertises cycling, running, and triathlon. Plans use fitness, available time, missed sessions, and how you feel. Flexible plans, more than one race, delivery to a device, and a chat coach. Chat is capped at 10 messages a week on Pro and 100 on Pro+. The public prices are for Germany. The annual amounts were read with the billing toggle.

What to copy

These are readings of the published products. Who produces faster athletes is a different question.

Cycling depth. TrainerRoad. The four-week preview is the clearest public example of showing the next adaptations before you ride them.

Endurance past the bike. Athletica. The reference when a plan has to cover more than cycling.

A week that fits real life. JOIN. The one for riders building training around work and family.

The running product. Runna. Onboarding, a note before the session, and strength and mobility next to the runs.

Race week for triathlon. TriDot. Three sports, and the race itself, treated as the job.

The closest technical match. AI Endurance. Adaptive planning, analytics, a coach that can act, and a hook for an outside assistant.

Prices

Most prices were checked on 12 October 2026. AI Endurance and 2PEAK were checked again on 14 October 2026. The last column divides the annual price by 12. Rows run from the lowest of those figures to the highest. TriDot has no annual price, so those rows use the monthly price. 2PEAK has no one-month price, so those rows use the monthly rate printed beside the six-month price. Euro prices stay in euros, so this order follows the published numbers rather than a conversion into dollars. “Not listed” means that page did not publish the figure. The Based Training row is the pricing copy in the product, not a charge confirmed at checkout.

Pay month to month and $10 sits under most of the full subscriptions in this list. TrainerRoad is $21.99. Athletica is $19.90. Runna is $19.99. JOIN is €16.99. HumanGO Essential is $16.99. enduco Pro is €14.99. Xert Premium and TriDot Lifestyle are both $14.99, and Lifestyle only covers one short race.

The year changes the comparison. Runna comes down to $10 a month. JOIN comes down to €10. Xert Premium comes down to $8.33. AI Endurance comes down to $16.67. 2PEAK Fit is €12 a month on the six-month price. Based Training’s year is $7 a month. A comparison that only uses the month-to-month sticker makes the gap look wider than the annual prices do.

On the dollar prices, $7 is still the low end of this list. Xert is the closest, at $8.33, and it also has a limited free Starter tier. Euro prices are a different currency, so €10 is not the same thing as $10. Read JOIN, 2PEAK, and enduco in euros.
